Pelorus Trust was fortunate to be able to help with the refit and maintenance work on the Spirit of
New Zealand.

Spirit of New Zealand sailed up to Whangarei at the end of May to commence her refit and
maintenance work. The work carried out went smoothly thanks to the commitment of the team
at Heron Shipyard and our own crew and volunteers that go over and above with their efforts.
This year we achieved a considerable amount, including replacing all the refrigeration in the
galley, changing electrical wiring so multiple appliances can be used at once, varnishing and
repairing rot in some of the masts, repairing sails that had incurred damage, re-bagging the
tender as well as other painting and fitting to make sure the Spirit is Ship Shape for the 2022 and
2023 season. We have enclosed a collage of a few pictures.
It was great to see the ship set sail again in July full of rangatahi excited about the prospect of 10
days of personal growth and development at sea.
None of this is possible without the generous support of organisations like you, we know it
hasn’t been an easy time for funders. So, on behalf of all the team and the young people that
