Pelorus Turst instrumental for Orewa College
Pelorus Trust are delighted to have supported the next generation of musicians with a grant to Orewa College.
Ann Stevens from the College had this to say, "I would like to say a huge thank you to the Pelorus Trust for gifting us $5000 in grant money this year. We were able to buy two trombones, a trumpet and a concert xylophone. We have four Concert Bands in school (over 40 students in each) and these instruments will be very helpful for those students who struggle to buy their own. We have already found that the xylophone has allowed the percussion students to get valuable practice before the competitions (KBB Festival and the National Concert Band Championships). This year our Senior Concert Band received a Silver award and our Middle School Concert Band a Bronze award in these competitions.
Some of our older students also play in the Hibiscus Coast Concert Band (a community band for all ages) and money from grants allows us to extend and continue this music making, providing lifelong skills.
Many thanks once again and I have included a photo of some of our students with the instruments bought with the grant award."
Pelorus Trust has a strict closing date policy.
Any late or incomplete applications will be processed for the next meeting.
Grant meetings are normally held within 10 days after the closing date.
